Pupcakes for Rescue Dogs

What a day to be a dog! Last week, the rescue dogs from Alexandra Morgan’s Animal School and Rescue got a real treat! More than 50 PUPCAKES were donated to the organization on behalf of ARS (parent company of Car Donation Wizard which benefits charities) and COMSEARCH employees.

The PUPCAKES, a peanut butter and carrot cupcake, were home baked by ARS employees for a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society’s BARK FOR LIFE event. Employees purchased PUPCAKES for their own canine friends, or donated to the homeless dogs at Alexandra’s Rescue shelter. American Cancer Society donations are an integral part of making progress in the fight against cancer.

Lana Patterson, from the ARS Accounting Department and shelter volunteer, brought the 50 PUPCAKES to the dogs and found herself overwhelmed at their response. Was it the attention of a kind stranger? The anticipation of finding a forever home? The smell of the delicious treats? Maybe it was a little of each. But whatever way you look at it, it was a great day! ARS employees raised money for the fight against cancer and the homeless dogs got some much-deserved love from caring strangers.

Alexandra’s is a training school and rescue shelter located in neighboring Swansea, Massachusetts. The shelter currently provides homes for 10 rescue dogs awaiting adoption, and another 11 she’s rescued and adopted herself over the years. They come from all over the country, and some of them (called Potcake dogs) are from the Turks and Caicos Islands. Alexandra often takes in problem dogs from other shelters, since she’s also a very experienced trainer. She also rescues and adopts out cats and currently has 7 now waiting for their forever home. She goes above and beyond what most others would to save these animals.

“Being involved in the BARK FOR LIFE has allowed us to spread our reach and the effect we have on the community. Not only are we participating as a company team in the Relay event, but every fundraiser we do in the office gives us the chance to pull in new lives in new ways, ” said Lisa Crowell, Company Team Captain.

The next employee fundraiser to benefit BARK FOR LIFE is “MAKING CHANGE” – a six-week long collection of spare change.
